AI Animation Factory Launches Stress Test in Lagos's Ijora Badia

In a groundbreaking move, a new AI animation factory has been unveiled in the heart of Ijora Badia, Lagos, marking a significant step in combating plastic pollution and advancing creative technology. The facility, constructed entirely from recycled PET bottles, is the first of its kind globally, transforming plastic waste into innovative, climate-conscious infrastructure.

Addressing Plastic Pollution Through Innovation

Every day, the equivalent of 2,000 garbage trucks full of plastic are dumped into the world's oceans, rivers, and lakes, with 19 to 23 million tonnes of plastic waste leaking into aquatic ecosystems annually. This pollution disrupts habitats and natural processes, reducing ecosystems' ability to adapt to climate change and impacting millions of livelihoods and food production. The AI animation factory, founded by Mr. Adetunwase Adenle of Slum Art and Animation Hub, aims to tackle this issue by repurposing plastic waste into a functional studio.

Three-Month Live Stress Test Initiative

The launch includes a three-month live stress test designed to demonstrate, refine, and scale what is poised to become the world's first fully automated AI Television (AI TV) platform. This test serves as a live systems evaluation of Africa's creative future, with the studio open to the public for 90 days. Investors, technologists, educators, creators, policymakers, and media are invited to witness firsthand how AI-powered storytelling is developed from concept to broadcast.

During this period, children aged 10 to 15 will participate in daily sessions, gathering around 10 laptops and a giant television screen to receive instructions from facilitators on basic animation lessons on a shift basis. This initiative builds on the pilot phase, where over 10,000 children across Lagos have already been trained in AI-assisted storytelling and animation, validating youth adoption and operational feasibility.

Founder's Vision and Objectives

Mr. Adetunwase Adenle described the launch as a transition from vision to validation, emphasizing, "We are not asking the world to believe us. We are inviting the world to test us." The stress test aims to validate infrastructure durability and energy sustainability, test real-time AI animation generation pipelines, measure production scalability under live conditions, refine collaborative AI storytelling workflows, and prove economic sustainability beyond the initial launch momentum.

Adenle stated that the objective is to build a model that survives pressure, scale, and time. As global entities like The Walt Disney Company explore AI-driven narrative ecosystems and companies such as OpenAI advance large language models reshaping creative industries, Nigeria is developing sovereign infrastructure to ensure African participation extends beyond talent supply to platform ownership.

Corporate Support and Environmental Commitment

The initiative has received counterpart funding support from First City Monument Bank (FCMB) since 2019, positioning it as a flagship 2026 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project. According to Omoniyi Iyanda, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at FCMB, this reflects the bank's commitment to inclusive innovation and environmental responsibility.

The AI animation factory in Ijora Badia represents a fusion of environmental stewardship and technological advancement, setting a precedent for sustainable infrastructure in the creative sector.
