Stakeholders Advocate AI-Driven Energy Alternatives to Tackle Nigeria's Power Crisis
Key players within Nigeria's energy sector have issued a compelling call for the integration and widespread adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven energy alternatives. This initiative aims to address the country's persistent and multifaceted energy challenges, which have long hindered economic growth and social development.
The Case for AI-Enabled Distributed Energy Resources
Advocates argue that AI-powered Distributed Energy Resources (DER) platforms offer a transformative solution. These systems are not only capable of delivering reliable, 24/7 energy but also drive significant social and economic impact by empowering communities and businesses.
Olu Aruike, the Country Director of HUSK Power Nigeria and Vice President of Business Development for West Africa, emphasized this point. His company, which recently won the prestigious 2026 FELAS Technovator award, provides a prime example of such technology in action.
"Stable energy sources, like those we provide, enable local livelihoods, boost small businesses, and contribute to climate-positive development across Africa and Asia," Aruike stated. He made these remarks at the Future Energy Leaders Awards (FELAS) 2026, an event focused on renewables and sustainable infrastructure organized by Enersider Markets Media.
Recognition and a Call for Best Practices
Upon leading his team to clinch the Technovator Award, Aruike charged fellow energy industry players to prioritize compliance with global best practices. He highlighted how HUSK's technology-driven renewable energy solutions are specifically designed to expand access to clean power in underserved and remote communities.
"As a tech-forward organization leveraging artificial intelligence, we will continue our quest to deploy solar and storage solutions," Aruike declared. "These solutions enable round-the-clock power, seamless operations, fast scalability, and long-term value. We are joining forces with other development partners to address the 600 million energy deficit in Africa and beyond."
In a statement accepting the award, Aruike expressed gratitude and appreciation for the recognition of HUSK's efforts in advancing energy access, boosting local incomes, and shaping a greener future in the Global South.
"We dedicate this award to companies that prioritize compliance with global best practices. This commitment to excellence has set a standard for us since our establishment in 2008," he said. He further expressed hope that this recognition would inspire emerging companies to adopt a similar mindset, which he described as the only path to true growth and scale, especially within dynamic and unpredictable markets.
