Coscharis Founder Reflects on Missed Fintech Investment at Flutterwave Gala

Dr Cosmas Maduka, the founder of Coscharis Group, has openly expressed his regret for not investing in Flutterwave, a fintech company that has grown into one of Africa's largest and globally recognized brands. Speaking at Flutterwave's 10th anniversary Gala Night held at The Delborough Lagos, Maduka lamented how the opportunity passed him by, highlighting his surprise at being bypassed.

"The only thing that surprises me is how did you people bypass me? There was no opportunity to tell me, 'Uncle, can we put money together?' I don't like good things passing me by," Maduka stated, reflecting on the missed chance to participate in Flutterwave's success.

Praise for Flutterwave and Nigerian Innovation

Maduka described Flutterwave's growth as a celebration of clear thought and clear mindset, emphasizing that its achievements demonstrate the intellectual and entrepreneurial capacity of Nigerians despite ongoing national challenges. He commended the company for placing Nigeria in a positive global spotlight, countering negative narratives about the country.

"You don't quarrel with results; they speak for themselves," Maduka remarked, praising Flutterwave's founder and CEO, Olugbenga Agboola, for his role in repositioning Nigeria on the international map.

Call for Leadership to Foster Opportunities

During his speech, Maduka praised former President Olusegun Obasanjo for laying an economic foundation that enabled private enterprise to thrive. He argued that leadership should primarily focus on creating opportunities for citizens to excel, stating, "Leaders set the foundation and give people opportunity. Once that opportunity exists, Nigerians will prove that there is no limitation to what we can achieve."

He also applauded Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for supporting initiatives that promote job creation and innovation, noting that events celebrating enterprise and technology deserve strong institutional backing.

Advice to Nigerian Youth on Entrepreneurship

Maduka cautioned young Nigerians against overreliance on paid employment, stressing that salaries alone cannot guarantee long-term prosperity. "Salary is medicine for poverty; it does not cure it," he said, urging youths to discover their talents and build value-driven enterprises capable of generating wealth and jobs.

He shared his personal story of resilience, recounting how he lost his father at a young age and had limited formal education, yet chose to return to Nigeria to build his business. "To be a true Nigerian, you must share in her shame and glory," Maduka added, highlighting his international business expansions as proof of his commitment.

Flutterwave's Global Impact and Viral Recognition

The Gala Night attracted prominent political leaders, industry captains, and entertainment figures from across Africa, commemorating Flutterwave's decade in the fintech sector. Recently, Flutterwave trended online after photos linking it to the New York Stock Exchange went viral on social media, with many netizens discussing its global presence and growth as a Nigerian-founded company.
