NITDA Emphasizes Nigeria's Human Capital as Critical for Global Competitiveness
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has underscored the pivotal importance of Nigeria's human capital in driving national development and securing the country's position on the global stage. This emphasis was articulated by NITDA's Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, during a meeting with a delegation from the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children's Education at the agency's headquarters in Abuja over the weekend.
Youthful Population as a Strategic Advantage
Inuwa highlighted that Nigeria's youthful and rapidly growing population presents a unique and timely opportunity. This demographic advantage comes at a critical juncture when many nations worldwide are grappling with ageing populations and shrinking workforces. He elaborated that the global demand for technical talent is forecasted to substantially exceed supply by 2030, thereby opening a significant window for Nigeria to establish itself as a major contributor to the international workforce.
The NITDA chief stressed that Nigeria possesses the inherent potential to transform into a global talent hub and become a net exporter of highly skilled professionals. He further described Nigerians residing in the diaspora as invaluable national assets who actively contribute through substantial remittances and vital knowledge transfer. Inuwa noted that diaspora inflows consistently remain one of Nigeria's most stable and reliable sources of foreign exchange, reinforcing the economic impact of this human capital.
Lagos State Advances Digital Safety with Cybersecurity Guidelines
In a parallel development, the Lagos State Government has officially released a comprehensive set of Cybersecurity Guidelines. This strategic framework is meticulously designed to bolster digital safety and security for businesses, public institutions, and all residents across the state.
In a statement issued, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Salau, affirmed that this initiative represents another decisive and proactive step in Lagos's ambitious mission to evolve into a SMART, secure, and globally competitive digital hub. The guidelines explicitly acknowledge that while Lagos is rapidly progressing towards becoming a SMART City, this technological advancement concurrently brings heightened vulnerability to sophisticated cyber threats.
The newly issued guidelines provide clear, practical, and scalable cybersecurity best practices tailored for a diverse range of entities, including small businesses, medium and large enterprises, and all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). This framework aims to establish robust digital defenses and foster a secure environment conducive to technological growth and innovation.
