Samsung is preparing to roll out the Android 17 operating system update for its Galaxy smartphones, with the stable release expected this summer. The update will bring new features and improvements, but not all devices will be eligible. Only models with extended software support periods of three to seven years will receive the upgrade.
Android 17 Rollout Details
The Android 17 update will be released in phases, beginning with newer flagship devices like the Galaxy S26 series. Samsung's version of the update will be branded as One UI 9, which includes features such as Gemini Intelligence, App Bubbles, Handoff API, and Material 3 Expressive design. The first beta version of One UI 9 became available in mid-May 2026 for developers and testers.
Devices launched in 2023, such as the Galaxy S23 series, will also receive Android 17, but this will be their final major OS upgrade as they are only guaranteed four years of updates. Newer models like the Galaxy S26 series will receive seven years of updates.

Samsung tablets released in 2023 and later, including the Galaxy Tab S flagship series and Galaxy Tab A series, are also expected to receive the Android 17 update.
In related news, Samsung has published an updated list of Galaxy devices that will no longer receive future software updates, marking the end of support for several older models. While these devices will continue to function, they will not receive new security patches once support officially ends.
