A non-governmental organization, Development Initiative of West Africa (DIWA), has donated electric wheelchairs to individuals with physical disabilities in Minna, the capital of Niger State.
Symbolic Presentation Ceremony
The Chief Executive Officer of DIWA, Mr. Daoda Kanneh, made the symbolic presentation of the wheelchairs at the organization’s headquarters, IET premises, Minna, on Thursday, May 7, 2026. He stated that the gesture reflects DIWA’s core mission of empowering people with mobility challenges to fully participate in their communities, pursue education and employment opportunities, and regain independence.
Commitment Beyond Assistive Devices
Mr. Kanneh further emphasized that DIWA’s commitment goes beyond merely providing assistive devices. According to him, the organization is focused on working with families, health professionals, and community leaders to eliminate barriers, promote inclusion, and create sustainable pathways to opportunity. He assured that DIWA would continue to improve its distribution processes, provide follow-up support to beneficiaries, and monitor outcomes to ensure that each mobility aid translates into measurable improvements in health, education, and economic participation.
“DIWA believes that mobility is a catalyst for stronger families, more resilient communities, and a brighter future for beneficiaries,” he said. He also expressed appreciation to partners, sponsors, and community volunteers for their continued support of the organization’s humanitarian efforts.
Beneficiary Testimonials
Speaking on behalf of other beneficiaries, Ms. Habiba Garba expressed gratitude for the intervention. “Honestly, we were expecting to see ordinary wheelchairs. But on getting here, we saw electric wheelchairs that will make our movement very easy. This is unprecedented because I have never seen this type before, and I never imagined that one day I would own one,” she said. Garba commended DIWA for its commitment to supporting vulnerable groups in society, particularly persons with disabilities.
