A professor at the Federal University Dutse (FUD) has secured a N25 million grant from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) National Research Fund (NRF) scheme to combat banditry and kidnapping through alternative livelihoods for pastoralists.
Grant Award and Research Focus
Professor Ado Garba Jangargari, from the Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, received the grant for his proposal titled “Tech for Peace: Engaging Northern Nigeria’s Pastoralists in Non-Agricultural Livelihoods to Counter Banditry and Kidnapping.” The research aims to leverage technology to provide alternative income sources for pastoral communities, thereby reducing insecurity in the region.
Alignment with TETFund Objectives
The university stated that the project aligns with TETFund’s goal of supporting innovative, high-impact research that addresses Nigeria’s pressing developmental challenges through practical, evidence-based solutions. The grant is part of the TETFund NRF programme, which funds quality research capable of influencing public policy and addressing critical national issues.
