The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Oba Rasheed Olabomi, has emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration among traditional institutions to foster unity and accelerate socio-economic development across communities.
Royal Visits to Strengthen Ties
Oba Olabomi made this call during courtesy visits to two prominent traditional rulers in Ogun State. He described the engagements as part of efforts to deepen the cordial relationship between the university and its host kingdoms. The Pro-Chancellor visited the palaces of HRM Oba Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, the Olu of Ilaro, and HRM Oba (Prof.) Saka Adelola Matemilola, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom.
The monarch explained that although he was appointed Pro-Chancellor of FUNAAB about two years ago, official engagements and other commitments had prevented him from undertaking these customary visits earlier. He noted that the visits were designed to strengthen existing bonds among traditional institutions, foster unity, and encourage collaboration on issues of common interest.
Role of Traditional Rulers
Oba Olabomi stressed that traditional rulers have a critical role to play in promoting peace, development, and social cohesion. He added that greater cooperation among royal fathers would help address challenges confronting their communities. The Pro-Chancellor expressed gratitude to the monarchs for the warm reception and hospitality accorded him and his delegation.
He reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with other traditional rulers to advance the socio-economic development of their respective domains and improve the well-being of their people. According to him, the visits reflect a shared commitment to strengthening traditional institutions and leveraging their influence for community growth and development.
Commendation and Support
In their remarks, the monarchs commended FUNAAB’s contributions to teaching, research, and community service. They reaffirmed their goodwill and support for the university’s aspirations and strategic objectives.
The Pro-Chancellor was accompanied on the visits by the Global President of the FUNAAB Alumni Association, Otunba Bolaji Gbadamosi; the Chief of Staff to Aragbiji-in-Council, Olayide Oladiti; and the Acting Head of the Directorate of Public Relations, Olasunkanmi Olajide.
Immediately after the royal visits, the Pro-Chancellor also carried out an on-the-spot assessment of the ongoing rehabilitation of the university’s swimming pool facility on campus.
