MTN Nigeria has announced the full restoration of its network services following an outage that disrupted connectivity in parts of Lagos, Oyo, Rivers, Delta, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The company confirmed the resolution in an update issued after initially alerting subscribers to the disruption on Thursday, October 8, 2026.
Outage Alert and Customer Notification
In an earlier notice shared via MTN Nigeria Support on X, the telecommunications company informed customers that it was experiencing network challenges in some parts of the affected states. The alert read: “Network outage alert! We're experiencing network challenges in some parts of Oyo, Lagos, Rivers, FCT and Delta States and our services may be temporarily unavailable as a result.”
The notice warned that some services might be temporarily unavailable, prompting customers to prepare for potential disruptions. The announcement was made public on Thursday, October 8, 2026, and was followed by a subsequent update titled “We're Back Online!”
Restoration Confirmed and Apology Issued
In the restoration update, MTN confirmed that the network issue had been resolved and apologised to customers who experienced difficulties. The company stated: “We sincerely apologise for the challenges where some customers experienced difficulty using our services. The issue has been resolved, and services are fully restored.”
The operator also provided instructions for subscribers still facing connectivity problems. MTN advised: “Still having issues? Please restart your device to reconnect. Thank you for your understanding.” The company concluded its message by thanking subscribers for their patience during the disruption. No further details were provided regarding the cause of the outage.
Impact of Network Disruptions on Daily Activities
Telecommunications services are critical for calls, internet access, mobile banking, business transactions, and other digital activities. Network outages can temporarily disrupt these functions, particularly for customers and businesses that rely heavily on mobile connectivity for daily operations. MTN Nigeria, one of the country's major telecom operators, provides voice and data services to millions of subscribers nationwide.
The latest announcement indicates that the company has resolved the reported network challenges. However, customers still experiencing issues are advised to restart their devices to reconnect to the network. This guidance aims to help affected users regain service promptly.
In a related development, Legit.ng earlier reported that MTN Nigeria restored its airtime and data borrowing service, allowing millions of subscribers to access emergency credit after weeks of disruption linked to a regulatory dispute. The company confirmed that eligible customers can activate the service by dialling *303# to borrow airtime or data based on their approved credit limits. This restoration followed similar moves by Airtel and Glo, after the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) suspended enforcement of its Digital, Electronic, Online or Non-Traditional (DEON) Consumer Lending Regulations.
