Isolo Community to Enjoy 24/7 Power as 14 Firms Get Licenses in Lagos
Isolo to Get 24/7 Power as 14 Firms Secure Licenses

Isolo Power Gen Limited has secured approval from the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC) to develop a 9-megawatt embedded power generation facility. This project will provide reliable electricity to residents and businesses in Isolo and surrounding communities in Lagos State.

New 9MW Power Project Approved

The company is the only operator granted an embedded generation licence in the latest batch of 14 approved companies. An embedded generation licence allows a private operator to build, own, and operate a power plant connected to the distribution network rather than the national high-voltage system.

According to LASERC documents, the facility will be located at 110/114 Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Isolo, Lagos. It will operate at a capacity of 9MW and supply electricity through a localized distribution system, ensuring a more stable and near-continuous power supply. This model reduces transmission losses and grid-related disruptions by delivering electricity closer to consumers.

Ownership of the project includes Westfield Assets Limited, Camara Exim Limited, Chellarams Plc, and Suresh Chellaram. The approval marks a significant step toward improving power stability in the area.

More Projects Underway

A review of LASERC documents reveals that about 40 additional applications are still undergoing approval across embedded generation, captive power, and mini-grid categories. This highlights growing investor interest in decentralized electricity projects in Lagos.

Among the pending embedded generation projects are a 10MW proposal by Alaro Power Free Zone Enterprise in Epe, a 24MW project by Takwa Bay Green Power Free Zone Enterprise in Apapa, a 30MW facility proposed by Geogrid Lightech Ltd in Agidingbi, and a 50MW project by Irele Energy LFZ Enterprise in Ibeju-Lekki.

Lagos Pushes for Decentralized Power

LASERC was established following the Lagos Electricity Law 2024, which replaced the state's 2018 electricity reform framework and created an independent electricity market for Lagos State. In March 2026, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu inaugurated the LASERC board, activating the commission's regulatory oversight over electricity generation, distribution, and tariffs in the state. This reform followed the 2023 constitutional amendment that empowered states to regulate and operate their own electricity markets independently of the federal system.

EKEDC Power Outage

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) announced a planned power outage affecting parts of Lagos, including Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Idumagbo, Obalende, Awolowo Road, and surrounding areas. The outage is due to scheduled maintenance at the Alagbon Transmission Station, where the Transmission Company of Nigeria will carry out major maintenance on a 300MVA transformer.
