The Kaduna State Government, through the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project, has signed contracts worth over N50 billion for major flood and gully erosion control projects across the state. The initiative aims to address the devastating impacts of flooding and land degradation in several communities.
Project Scope and Locations
The projects will be executed in Rigasa/Tudun Wada, Kawo, and Zaria township. These areas have been severely affected by flooding, gully erosion, and land degradation, posing risks to lives, livelihoods, and infrastructure.
Contract Awards
Following a rigorous and transparent procurement process, three construction firms emerged as successful bidders. Mothercat Nigeria Limited secured the Rigasa/Tudun Wada corridor, Spectrum Engineering Limited won the Kawo corridor, and CGC Nigeria Limited was awarded the Zaria corridor project.
Rigasa/Tudun Wada Corridor
The Rigasa/Tudun Wada project, spanning over 17 kilometers, involves structural engineering and bio-remediation works. These include reinforced concrete open channels and transition sections to stabilize soil and control water flow.
Kawo Corridor
The Kawo corridor project, covering more than three kilometers, focuses on expanding water channels to prevent washouts. Stone pitching, composites, and bio-remediation techniques will be deployed to protect vulnerable areas.
Zaria Corridor
The Zaria corridor project, extending over 11 kilometers, features preventive engineering structures designed to improve water flow capacity and protect adjoining properties and public infrastructure from flood and erosion damage.
Government Commitment
The Kaduna State Government stated that these interventions will address growing environmental challenges, protect lives and critical infrastructure, and strengthen climate resilience. The projects reflect a shared commitment with ACReSAL to combat environmental degradation and promote ecological sustainability for present and future generations.
