From Seminary to Solar Business: A Bold Career Shift
A Nigerian man who once aspired to be a reverend father has revealed why he abandoned his priestly training to become a solar panel dealer. Chidera, known as @deravoltage on TikTok, shared that despite leaving the seminary, some people still address him as a reverend father, unaware of his new path.
The Decision to Quit
Chidera explained that he enrolled in the seminary after primary school, driven by a childhood dream. However, after completing his philosophy studies, he decided not to proceed with theology, calling it a waste of his time. He described leaving as “the hardest, riskiest, and best decision of my life.” He added, “I was smart enough to quit before getting ordained. Wasn’t worth it to me.”
Reactions from the Public
The video sparked mixed reactions. One commenter said, “Must have been the hardest decision of your life…. You only left the royal priesthood, it didn’t leave you because it’s already part of you.” Another wrote, “I wanted to be a rev sister while growing up but mbaaaaaaa.” Some supported his move, with a user stating, “I’m proud of you and your decision, do not let anyone make you think otherwise.”
Focus on Business, Not Tithes
Chidera emphasized that his focus is now on business and contracts, not tithes and offerings. He urged people to remember the name DeraVoltage when they need solar products. The story highlights a growing trend of Nigerians pivoting from traditional religious careers to entrepreneurship.
