The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) Guitar Choir celebrated its 20th anniversary with a unique sports evangelism programme held at Mountain Top University (MTU) in Ibafo, Ogun State. The event drew representatives from over 30 regions to participate in Sports Evangelism 2026.
Support from Church Leadership
The programme received strong support from the MFM General Overseer, Dr. Daniel Kolawole Olukoya, and his wife, Dr. Folashade Olukoya. They believe in sports as a tool for evangelism, unity, and love.
A New Phase for the Choir
According to the organisers, sports evangelism marks a new phase for the choir as a multifaceted musical group. It introduces innovative and creative events to enhance participation and membership sustainability. The group is exploring both musical and non-musical activities to help members showcase their innate talents.
“Some who never knew they could make attempts did, and found joy in the participation. This is an evangelical approach to physical bodily exercise, and it is worth engaging,” a statement from the choir noted.
Objectives of Sports Evangelism
The sports evangelism was designed to achieve several key objectives:
- Create avenues to discover extramusical talent among members and encourage them to leverage strengths in sports alongside musical talents.
- Highlight the intersection between guitar music and sports, with guitar accompaniment used for the march during the parade in place of band drums.
- Inspire younger Guitar Choir members in secondary school to aspire toward higher education after attending the sports activities at MTU.
- Strengthen ties between Mountain Top University and the MFM Guitar Choir for past support and opportunities for academic training, mentorship, and continual learning.
- Promote unity and love among members across regions, with selected members forming teams to compete and collaborate in parade and track events.
The event successfully combined music and sports, fostering fellowship and talent discovery among participants.
