Nasarawa Residents Decry Abandoned Adokasa Road Project, Urge Governor's Intervention
Residents of Adokasa community in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have raised a loud alarm over the abandonment of a crucial road project in their area. They are urgently calling on Governor Abdullahi Sule to step in and address the situation, which has left them grappling with severe hardships, especially with the onset of the rainy season.
Project Aims and Current State of Disrepair
The road project was initially launched with the goal of transforming a previously hazardous and difficult route into a safe, accessible roadway. It was expected to significantly boost local commerce and facilitate the smooth transportation of agricultural produce from the area to markets. However, residents report that contractors have left the project uncompleted, resulting in a return to the dangerous conditions that plagued the community before the initiative began.
Mr. Tanko Philip, a concerned resident, highlighted the visible potholes and deteriorating state of the uncompleted stretch. He appealed directly to Governor Sule, urging him to use his executive authority to compel the contractors to return to the site and finish the job. "I am sure our hardworking governor is not aware that the road project has been abandoned midway. It is unfortunate. We keep hearing different stories—some say the contractors have not been paid, others claim they collected the full contract sum and disappeared. They must return to complete the job," Philip stated emphatically.
Community Frustration and Feelings of Neglect
Another resident, who chose to remain anonymous, expressed deep frustration over what he described as the government's neglect of the Adokasa community. "It is unfortunate that Adokasa residents are being taken for granted. They think we are villagers without a voice, but they are mistaken. We will continue to draw the attention of the government to this issue," the resident asserted, reflecting a broader sentiment of disillusionment among locals.
This outcry comes despite Governor Sule's earlier expressions of concern over the slow pace of work by contractors across Nasarawa State. He had previously urged them to accelerate project delivery ahead of the rainy season to avoid such predicaments.
Broader Infrastructure Context and State Efforts
The Adokasa road project is part of a larger infrastructure development agenda pursued by the Nasarawa State Government. This comprehensive plan includes major undertakings such as:
- The construction of a 2.6-kilometre twin flyover in Mararaba.
- The development of one-kilometre roads in each of the state's 13 local government areas to enhance connectivity and accessibility.
In early 2026, the state government demonstrated its commitment to infrastructure by approving approximately ₦13 billion for various road projects. This substantial investment underscores the administration's focus on improving transportation networks and fostering economic growth.
Urgent Calls for Action
Despite these broader efforts and financial commitments, residents of Adokasa emphasize that urgent action is needed to ensure the completion of their abandoned road. They argue that the daily challenges they face—including difficult commutes, reduced access to markets, and safety risks—require immediate attention to alleviate their suffering and unlock the project's promised benefits for local commerce and agriculture.
