Sergio Ramos Agrees to Buy Sevilla in €400m Deal

Real Madrid and Spain legend Sergio Ramos is reportedly on the verge of purchasing his boyhood club, Sevilla. According to reports, the former defender and investment group Five Eleven Capital have reached an agreement with the club's major shareholders.

Deal Details

The proposed transaction, valued at approximately 400 million euros (about £347 million), would see the consortium acquire an 80 percent stake in the Andalusian club. Shares are estimated at 3,500 euros each, as reported by El País. However, the deal still requires approval from La Liga and the Spanish National Sports Council.

Sevilla's Current Situation

Sevilla, a consistent presence in La Liga since the 2001-02 season, is currently fighting to avoid relegation. The club's precarious position adds urgency to the potential takeover.

Ramos' Storied Career

Ramos, now 40 years old, began his youth career at Sevilla before moving to Real Madrid in 2005. During his 16-year spell with Los Blancos, he won 22 major trophies, including five La Liga titles, four Champions League titles, and four Club World Cups. He was instrumental in Real Madrid's three consecutive Champions League triumphs between 2016 and 2018.

On the international stage, Ramos was a World Cup winner in 2010 and a two-time European Champion in 2008 and 2012 with Spain. He earned an astonishing 180 caps for his country, scoring 23 goals—an impressive feat for a center-back.

Return to Sevilla and Beyond

After two seasons at Paris Saint-Germain, Ramos returned to Sevilla for the 2023-24 campaign. He last played for Mexican side Monterrey before leaving as a free agent earlier this year. Although he has not officially announced his retirement, he ended his international career in 2023.

The potential acquisition marks a significant moment for Ramos, who could now shape the future of the club where his professional journey began.
