Saudi Airline Flynas Deploys Six Airbus A330s for 2026 Nigerian Hajj Pilgrims
In preparation for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage, Saudi Arabian designated air carrier Flynas has announced the deployment of six wide-body Airbus A330 aircraft to transport Nigerian pilgrims to Saudi Arabia. This strategic move was disclosed by Alhaji Umar Kaila, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of First Planet Travels Limited, which serves as the General Sales Agent (GSA) for Flynas in Nigeria, during an interview with journalists in Abuja.
Aircraft Capacity and Pilgrim Allocation
According to a statement from Mr. Mahmood Muhammad Abande of the Flynas Media Office in Abuja, the airline has lined up six Airbus A330 planes specifically for the Hajj operation. Four of these aircraft each have a seating capacity of 430 passengers, while the remaining two planes can accommodate 345 pilgrims each. The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has allocated a total of 12,550 intending pilgrims to Flynas for this year's pilgrimage, highlighting the airline's significant role in the airlift process.
Operational Airports and Staff Preparation
Flynas will operate from multiple airports across Nigeria to facilitate the airlift. The designated airports include Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos, Sultan Abubakar International Airport in Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Birnin Kebbi, Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport in Minna, Kaduna International Airport, and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. Pilgrims will be transported from states such as Kebbi, Lagos, Osun, Kaduna, Niger, Ogun, and Nasarawa. To ensure smooth operations, Flynas has organized refresher courses for over 100 local Nigerian staff members, emphasizing their commitment to providing excellent service.
Commitment to Excellence and Historical Context
Alhaji Umar Kaila emphasized Flynas's dedication to offering world-class services to Nigerian pilgrims, stating that the airline has proven over the past 12 years that Nigerian pilgrims are treated as kings. He assured that Flynas will deploy top-notch facilities and well-trained manpower for the 2026 Hajj operation, aiming to serve the Guests of Allah with the highest standards. Flynas has been operating in Nigeria since 2014 under the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, and it boasts a fleet of more than 61 aircraft, operating over 1,500 weekly flights across 139 routes to more than 70 destinations in 30 countries.
Assurance of Cooperation
Mr. Kaila further assured NAHCON, state pilgrims boards, and other relevant federal agencies of mutual cooperation and understanding to ensure a seamless Hajj airlift this year. This collaborative approach underscores the airline's commitment to facilitating a successful and efficient pilgrimage experience for all Nigerian participants.
