President Tinubu Commissions Major Infrastructure Projects in Ogun State
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu embarked on an official visit to Ogun State on Saturday, April 4, 2026, to commission and inspect a series of landmark infrastructure projects. This visit underscores the state's significant strides in infrastructural development and economic expansion.
Gateway International Airport Takes Center Stage
At the heart of the visit was the commissioning of the Gateway International Airport in Iperu. This ambitious project is designed to position Ogun State as a key aviation and logistics hub in Nigeria. According to a statement by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Information and Strategy, the airport represents a strategic investment aimed at boosting the state's economic potential.
Within the airport complex, President Tinubu also commissioned two newly acquired aircraft under Gateway Air, marking the official launch of the state's aviation initiative in partnership with ValueJet. This move is expected to enhance regional connectivity and support commercial activities.
Economic and Security Enhancements
Further highlighting the airport's economic role, the President witnessed a cargo operations showcase facilitated by SAHCOL, indicating readiness for full-scale logistics and freight operations. This development is poised to attract businesses and improve trade efficiency in the region.
In addition to aviation assets, several strategic projects were commissioned at the airport, including:
- 1,000 electric bikes as part of the state's EV mobility initiative, aimed at promoting sustainable transportation.
- 80 security vehicles to strengthen the safety architecture and ensure enhanced security measures.
These initiatives reflect a comprehensive approach to infrastructure, focusing on both economic growth and public safety. Governor Dapo Abiodun's administration has emphasized these projects as critical steps toward transforming Ogun State into a model of development and service delivery.
The visit by President Tinubu not only celebrates these achievements but also signals federal support for state-led infrastructural efforts. It highlights the collaborative efforts between the federal and state governments in driving national progress through targeted investments in key sectors.
