Turkish Airlines Opens First European Lounge in Edinburgh
Turkish Airlines Launches First European Lounge in Edinburgh

Turkish Airlines has achieved a significant milestone with the inauguration of its first-ever lounge in Europe, located at Edinburgh Airport in Scotland. This new facility, which opened its doors recently, represents the eighth lounge the carrier operates outside its home country of Türkiye and brings a slice of its world-famous İstanbul hub hospitality directly to Scottish travellers.

A New Premium Gateway in Scotland

The launch event was held at Edinburgh International Airport, celebrating the lounge's official opening. Spanning an impressive 673 square metres, the space is designed to accommodate up to 149 guests at a time. This strategic investment by Türkiye's flag carrier, renowned for flying to more countries than any other airline, is set to significantly enhance the premium travel experience for passengers departing from or transiting through Edinburgh.

The lounge aims to replicate the luxurious and seamless experience of the airline's flagship five-star lounge in İstanbul, albeit on a smaller scale tailored for this key international gateway. This move reinforces Edinburgh Airport's growing stature as a major international travel hub.

Luxury Amenities and Thoughtful Design

The newly opened Turkish Airlines Lounge is packed with premium facilities designed for comfort and convenience. Guests can enjoy an open buffet service, which features a dedicated Turkish pide station during lunch and dinner hours, offering a genuine taste of Turkish cuisine.

Other key amenities include:

  • A luxury relaxation area equipped with televisions and high-speed Wi-Fi.
  • Two dedicated prayer rooms for spiritual observance.
  • An accessible restroom for guests with reduced mobility.
  • A private baby care room for travelling families.
  • Real-time flight information screens to keep passengers updated.

The lounge also boasts fantastic runway views, allowing travellers to relax and watch aircraft movements while waiting for their flights.

Commitment to European Expansion and Excellence

Speaking at the opening, Turkish Airlines Chief Operations Officer M. Akif Konar highlighted the importance of this development. He stated that the lounge opening marks an important milestone for the airline, demonstrating its deep commitment to its European operations where it already holds a strong presence as the continent's best airline.

"As our first abroad lounge in Europe and our eighth outside of Türkiye, this investment demonstrates our deep commitment to our European operations," Konar said. "Looking ahead, we will continue to build on our presence in the region and bring our award-winning hospitality closer to travellers here."

Stephanie Wear, Chief Commercial Officer at Edinburgh International Airport, also expressed excitement about this new chapter. She noted that the lounge underscores Turkish Airlines' commitment to the airport and its dedication to enhancing the passenger experience. "Open to all travellers, the lounge offers a relaxing space with fantastic runway views and some great food and beverage options whilst you wait for your flight," Wear added.

The opening of this lounge on 20 December 2025 is more than just an additional airport facility; it is a strategic enhancement that elevates Edinburgh's competitive offering in the premium travel market. For Nigerian travellers and business professionals frequently using this route to Europe and beyond, it promises a more comfortable and luxurious start to their journeys, aligning with the high standards of service that global travellers have come to expect from Turkish Airlines.
