Axxela Limited Wins Double Sustainability Awards for Carbon Reduction Leadership
Axxela Wins Carbon Reduction, Sustainability Awards 2025

In a significant endorsement of its environmental strategy, Nigerian energy firm Axxela Limited has clinched two major accolades for its work in reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable industrial growth.

Double Honour at Prestigious Awards

The company was recognised at the 2025 Social Impact and Sustainability Awards, organised by CSR Reporters. Axxela emerged as the Carbon Reduction and Clean Energy Leader of the Year and also secured the position of runner-up for Most Sustainable Company of the Year.

These awards spotlight the firm's expanding influence in providing cleaner energy solutions to Nigeria's industrial sector. The achievements are rooted in the strategic expansion of its natural gas infrastructure and its supply network, which now serves over 200 industrial customers across the country.

Measurable Impact on Nigeria's Carbon Footprint

The most striking figure from Axxela's operations is a recorded reduction of over 703,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions in a single year. This monumental decrease is attributed to industries switching from heavy, polluting fuels to cleaner natural gas supplied by Axxela.

Industry analysts consider this one of the most substantial carbon reduction outcomes led by the private sector in Nigeria's recent history. This performance aligns with the company's EcoVadis Gold Rating, which ranks Axxela among the top five percent of companies globally assessed on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria.

Leadership Committed to Practical Sustainability

Reacting to the honours, Group Chief Executive Officer, Timothy Ononiwu, stated that the awards validate the company's long-term vision. "These recognitions validate our long-term vision for sustainability and cleaner energy delivery," Ononiwu said. "We remain committed to expanding our impact across Nigeria’s industrial sector and accelerating the nation’s low-carbon transition. Our approach is practical, intentional, and deeply rooted in how we serve our customers."

In a similar vein, Director of Corporate Operations, Tuoyo Ejueyitchie, highlighted the tangible results of their sustainability framework. "We are proud that our sustainability and ESG strategies are yielding measurable results," Ejueyitchie noted. "True operational excellence means delivering value responsibly, balancing environmental stewardship, social impact, and sound governance for long-term sustainability."

The dual awards underscore a growing trend where Nigerian corporations are being evaluated and celebrated for their direct contributions to national environmental goals and the global fight against climate change.
