Guinea Insurance Raises N12.6bn, Exceeds NAICOM Capital

Guinea Insurance Plc has successfully raised N12.6 billion, surpassing the new capital base mandated by the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM). The company announced this achievement on Monday, confirming its full compliance with the industry's recapitalization directive.

Capital Raising Success

The insurer, which had earlier received shareholders' approval to raise up to N15 billion, said it has now exceeded the N10 billion minimum capital requirement set by NAICOM for general insurance companies. The funds were raised through a combination of rights issues and private placements, according to a statement from the company.

Speaking on the development, the Managing Director of Guinea Insurance, Mr. Ademola Abidogun, said, "We are delighted to have surpassed the regulatory capital requirement ahead of the deadline. This achievement underscores our commitment to strengthening our financial base and enhancing our capacity to underwrite larger risks."

Regulatory Compliance and Market Impact

NAICOM had directed all insurance firms to increase their minimum paid-up capital as part of reforms aimed at strengthening the sector. For general insurance, the new requirement is N10 billion, up from the previous N3 billion. Guinea Insurance's successful capital raise positions it among the few companies that have met the new threshold ahead of the December 2025 deadline.

Industry analysts believe this development will boost confidence in the company and the broader insurance sector. The capital injection will enable Guinea Insurance to take on more significant risks, expand its product offerings, and compete more effectively in the market.

Future Prospects

With the new capital in place, Guinea Insurance plans to invest in technology, expand its distribution channels, and enhance its customer service. The company also aims to increase its market share in the highly competitive Nigerian insurance industry.

As at the time of this report, shares of Guinea Insurance were trading at N0.50 on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX), reflecting a positive market response to the news.
