The Ijebu Boys Association (IJBOYS), a philanthropic group based in Ogun State, has ushered in a new era of leadership with a firm commitment to amplify its developmental impact across Ijebuland. The newly elected executive council, led by President Olukayode Okenla, has vowed to consolidate the achievements of previous administrations while significantly expanding the association's footprint in critical sectors such as health, education, and economic empowerment over the coming years.
A Legacy of Service and Philanthropy
Founded in 2016, IJBOYS is a non-profit, non-political organization composed of men who grew up in the Ijebu region during the 1970s and early 1980s. Its core mission revolves around promoting human and physical development in Ijebuland through a multifaceted approach that includes educational programs, economic initiatives, social projects, thought leadership, and the welfare of its members. Over the years, the association has established a strong reputation for its dedication to community upliftment and sustainable progress.
Health Sector Initiatives Making a Difference
In the realm of healthcare, IJBOYS has implemented several flagship programs that have directly benefited thousands of residents. A standout initiative is the annual three-day free medical outreach, now in its seventh edition, which provides comprehensive services including medical consultations, diagnostic tests, free medications, and meals to communities across Ijebuland. Additionally, the association has sponsored health insurance coverage for vulnerable members of the community, enhancing access to quality healthcare. Further support has been demonstrated through donations of essential drugs to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) in Sagamu, reinforcing the local health infrastructure.
Economic Empowerment and Growth
On the economic front, IJBOYS has actively stimulated local enterprise and trade. In 2025, the association successfully convened an Economic Summit and Trade Fair, aimed at fostering sustainable economic growth within Ijebuland. This event provided a platform for local businesses to showcase their products, network with investors, and explore new opportunities, thereby contributing to the region's economic vitality and job creation.
New Leadership and Strategic Vision
The newly elected executive council, which will serve a two-year term, includes key officers such as Olukayode Okenla as President, Otunba Niyi Awonaike as Vice President, and Pharm. Adesanwo Adebiyi as Secretary General. Other notable members are Omoba Adetola Odusote as Publicity Secretary and Olusegun Ashaye as Legal Secretary. The council also features international representatives, including Omoba Akinwande Adewale as Deputy Head in the UK and Major Ayodele Okuwa as Head of Strategic Planning in the US, highlighting the association's global reach and collaborative efforts.
In his New Year message, President Okenla expressed profound gratitude to members for their unwavering commitment and congratulated them on witnessing the new year. He emphasized that 2026 marks a special milestone as the association celebrates its 10th anniversary, reflecting on a decade of remarkable successes and impactful contributions to humanity and Ijebuland's development. Okenla assured that the new dawn for IJBOYS will focus on delivering greater value and impact, with a renewed dedication to serving humanity and advancing the collective interests of members. He stated, "We are fully prepared to lead Ijebuland to greater heights, sustain our vision, and deepen growth and development."
The immediate past President, Mr. Olagbuyi Oduniyi, will continue to contribute as a non-officio member of the Council, ensuring continuity and leveraging past experiences to guide future initiatives. With this robust leadership structure and a clear strategic vision, IJBOYS is poised to deepen its focus on transformative projects that will enhance the quality of life and economic prospects for the people of Ijebuland.
