Akwa Ibom's IGR Skyrockets to N7 Billion Monthly Following TSA Rollout
Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has expressed profound satisfaction with the performance of the Treasury Single Account policy, revealing a remarkable surge in the state's internally generated revenue. In just three months, the monthly IGR has escalated from N2 billion to an impressive N7 billion, marking a significant financial milestone for the region.
TSA Policy Drives Transparency and Revenue Growth
The Treasury Single Account policy, which was officially implemented on January 1, 2026, mandates all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to remit all government revenues into a single, centralized account. This strategic move is designed to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficient financial management across the state's public sector.
Speaking during the Government House Monthly Prayer Service at the Latter House Chapel in Uyo, Governor Eno highlighted the policy's immediate impact. "From our Treasury Single Account, TSA, started a month ago, it's indeed heartwarming that our internally generated revenue has suddenly risen from N2 billion to N7 billion monthly," he stated, underscoring the rapid financial gains achieved.
Commitment to Financial Sustainability and Development
Governor Eno reaffirmed his administration's unwavering commitment to elevating the state's IGR to a financially sustainable level, where it can independently cover workers' salaries. "We want to make our state self-sustaining and sufficient. In the next few years, we should be able to raise our internally generated revenue to a point where it can at least pay our salaries," he emphasized, outlining a clear vision for economic autonomy.
He issued a stern warning to all government entities and financial stakeholders, urging strict adherence to the TSA rules and standards to further boost revenue generation. Any acts of compromise or sabotage, he cautioned, would be met with appropriate consequences, ensuring the integrity of the financial system.
ARISE Agenda and Community-Driven Development
The governor detailed that his administration's development strides are firmly rooted in the ARISE Agenda, his comprehensive economic blueprint, and the needs documents presented by residents across Akwa Ibom. "I want to assure Akwa Ibomites that we are still running on the development blueprint that we presented to the state, and we are working tirelessly to ensure that we achieve the goals of the people's mandate," he assured, highlighting a community-centric approach to governance.
He further explained that development is not automatic but requires sequential execution of projects and programs for sustainable transformation. This methodical strategy aims to ensure long-term benefits and avoid haphazard implementation.
Call for Political Calm and Continued Support
Addressing the unfolding political season, Governor Eno urged residents to read the political temperature carefully and avoid actions that could heat up the polity. He stressed that there would be no compensation for unwarranted political wastage, advocating for a focus on peace, unity, and development instead.
"The government remains committed to prioritizing the security and welfare of the people," he asserted, calling for continued support from the community to foster a stable and progressive environment.
Spiritual Reflection at Prayer Service
During the prayer service, Reverend Simeon Afolabi, founder and serving Overseer of Firstlove Assembly in Port Harcourt, delivered a sermon on the theme "El-Shaddai – the God Almighty." He emphasized that true knowledge of God comes through revelation rather than academic pursuit, offering believers boldness and strength to overcome challenges.
The cleric elaborated that "El-Shaddai" signifies the Almighty God, mighty in wisdom, excellence, power, and influence across all spheres of life. He encouraged Christians to maintain their trust in God, who, he noted, surrounds His people with protection and guidance.
