Kano Governor Pledges to Tackle Multi-Dimensional Poverty

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his administration's dedication to reducing multi-dimensional poverty in the state. Speaking through his deputy, Murtala Sule Garo, at a North-West policy dialogue focused on poverty alleviation, Yusuf emphasized the government's resolve to address the root causes of poverty.

The event, organized by UNICEF in collaboration with the European Union (EU), aimed to strengthen social protection systems and promote innovative financing mechanisms in the region. Garo highlighted that the Kano State Government is tackling poverty by enhancing access to opportunities, healthcare, housing, education, and sustainable livelihoods.

Garo stated, “I wish to acknowledge the invaluable support of the European Union and UNICEF in advancing social development initiatives across Nigeria. Their partnership has contributed significantly to strengthening social protection frameworks, improving access to essential services, and supporting vulnerable populations. We deeply appreciate these efforts and look forward to expanding our collaboration.”

He further noted, “As leaders, we must ensure that policies discussed in forums such as this translate into tangible outcomes for our citizens. Our commitment should be measured not by the quality of our discussions alone, but by the impact of our actions on the lives of those we serve.”

Garo called on all stakeholders to strengthen partnerships, share best practices, leverage innovation, and mobilize resources to build inclusive and sustainable social protection systems across the North-West region and beyond. He added, “Together, we can create a future where every child has access to quality education, every family can access healthcare, every young person has opportunities for productive employment, and every vulnerable citizen can live with dignity and hope.”

On behalf of the Government and people of Kano State, Garo thanked the European Union, UNICEF, development partners, and all participants for their dedication to this noble cause. The dialogue brought together development partners including the European Union, UNICEF, policymakers, members of European diplomatic communities, and religious leaders.
