National Tax Forum 2026 to Examine Nigeria's New Tax Regime

The National Tax Forum 2026 (NTF 2026) is set to examine the implications of Nigeria's new tax regime for businesses, the informal sector, and revenue performance. The forum is organized by Nodeori Group in partnership with the University of Lagos and the Tax Academicians Association of Nigeria (TaxAAN).

Event Details

Scheduled for July 2 and 3, 2026, at the University of Lagos, the forum is themed “Nigeria’s New Tax Era: Implications for Businesses, the Informal Sector, and Revenue Performance.” Sessions will run daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with registration closing on June 29.

The event comes after the implementation of four new tax acts in January 2026, marking one of the most significant overhauls of Nigeria’s tax system in recent history.

Purpose and Participants

Organizers stated that the forum will serve as a platform for policymakers, regulators, business leaders, tax professionals, academics, and innovators to deliberate on the practical implementation of the new tax framework. Discussions will focus on compliance, economic activity, and revenue generation.

The forum will open with a welcome address by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof Folasade Ogunsola. The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, is expected as the Special Guest of Honour.

Key Focus Areas

Professor Ajiboye noted that the enactment of the new tax laws has shifted attention from legislation to implementation. He emphasized that businesses, regulators, and tax practitioners must work together to ensure the reforms achieve their objectives. The forum aims to bridge the gap between policy and practice by engaging stakeholders on compliance challenges, implementation strategies, and inclusion of SMEs and informal economy operators.

The programme will feature plenary sessions in the university’s Main Auditorium and five parallel breakout sessions. Topics include personal income tax, companies’ income tax reforms, capital gains and hydrocarbon taxation, value-added tax and stamp duties, taxation of the informal economy, fiscal federalism and tax harmonization, digital tax administration, transparency and citizens’ welfare, and global best practices.

Expected Outcomes

A key feature of the forum is its focus on producing practical outcomes to support ongoing tax reforms. These include a closing communiqué within 48 hours, the NTF 2026 Compendium within 30 days, a Recommended Amendments Package within 30 days, and the NTF 2026 Policy Report within 45 days. The proposed amendments will be developed for consideration during the Federal Government’s end-of-2026 review cycle for the four new tax acts.

Sponsorship

The forum is presented with Taxbags as headline sponsor. Organizers described the company as the technology architecture supporting Nigeria’s new tax framework, highlighting the growing role of digital solutions in tax administration and compliance.

Organizers expressed confidence that the gathering will provide a valuable platform for dialogue, policy development, and stakeholder engagement as Nigeria adapts to its new tax era.
