NBS Data Shows Cheapest and Costliest Rice, Beans Markets in Nigeria

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has released new data showing changes in the prices of rice and beans across Nigeria. The South South and South West recorded the highest prices, while the North East had the lowest. Food costs continue to burden Nigerian households.

Regional Price Variations for Rice

Local Rice (Broken) – 50kg

The South South recorded the highest price at N145,927, followed by the South West at N129,322. The North East posted the lowest at N83,385. Other regions: North Central N114,267, North West N86,458, South East N98,351.

Local Rice (Short-Grained) – 50kg

The North Central recorded the highest price at N101,350, while the North East remained cheapest at N82,776. Others: North West N90,806, South East N98,394, South South N91,776, South West N97,816.

Imported Long-Grained Rice – 50kg

The North Central had the highest price at N125,738, and the North East the lowest at N101,718. Other regions: North West N103,756, South East N110,613, South South N113,197, South West N110,847.

Beans Price Disparities

Beans Brown – 50kg

The South West recorded a high price of N88,529, closely followed by the South South at N88,125. The North West had the lowest at N42,556. Others: North Central N61,488, North East N43,440, South East N80,794.

Beans White – 50kg

The South South recorded the highest price at N86,654, while the North West remained cheapest at N40,723. Others: North Central N60,741, North East N41,308, South East N79,908, South West N80,703.

The NBS collected data from selected markets across all 774 local government areas in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Food inflation pressure remains uneven across Nigeria's regions.
