Nigeria's headline inflation continued its upward trend in 2026, rising for the third consecutive month. According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the inflation rate increased from 15.69 percent in April 2026 to 15.93 percent in May 2026.

Monthly Inflation Drops

However, on a month-on-month basis, the headline inflation rate in May 2026 dropped to 1.75 percent. This represents a decrease of 0.39 percent compared to the 2.13 percent recorded in April 2026.

Year-on-Year Comparison

On a year-on-year basis, the headline inflation rate stood at 15.93 percent in May 2026. This is higher than the 15.69 percent recorded in April 2026 but significantly lower than the 26.06 percent recorded in May 2025.
