EKEDC Announces Scheduled Three-Day Power Outage in Lagos for Network Enhancement

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has officially announced a planned electricity outage that will affect multiple areas within Lagos State for three consecutive days. This scheduled disruption is part of essential network upgrade works aimed at strengthening the electricity distribution infrastructure and improving service reliability for customers in the rapidly developing Lekki corridor.

Affected Areas and Specific Outage Schedule

According to the detailed public notice released by EKEDC, the power outage will impact residents and businesses in two primary zones with different schedules:

  • Lekki District and Surrounding Areas: These locations will experience electricity supply interruptions from Thursday, March 13, 2026, through Saturday, March 15, 2026. The daily outage window will be from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during all three days.
  • Apapa, Kirikiri, Ajegunle, Mobil Road and Environs: These areas will face a single-day power outage on Friday, March 14, 2026, with the disruption lasting from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The company has advised all customers within these affected zones to make necessary preparations ahead of the scheduled power disruptions to minimize inconvenience.

Purpose and Scope of the Network Upgrade

The extensive maintenance exercise will focus on the Lekki Injection Substation, where technical teams will carry out critical upgrade works designed to enhance operational flexibility and improve power evacuation capacity. According to EKEDC's statement, this planned outage is necessary to facilitate network improvements that will ultimately deliver better electricity service to customers.

"This planned outage is necessary to facilitate network upgrades aimed at improving operational flexibility, enhancing power evacuation, and delivering better service to our customers," the company stated in its official communication to affected residents.

The distribution company emphasized that these maintenance activities are part of ongoing efforts to modernize the electricity network and support the rising electricity demand in the Lekki corridor, which has experienced significant residential and commercial development in recent years.

Industry Context and Similar Outages

Scheduled network upgrades have become increasingly common across Nigeria's power sector as distribution companies work to improve infrastructure reliability. Industry stakeholders note that such temporary outages are essential for safely installing or replacing critical equipment that strengthens electricity distribution networks and reduces system faults over the long term.

This announcement follows similar planned outages by other distribution companies across Nigeria. Recently, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) notified customers in parts of Kogi State about a 19-hour power outage scheduled for maintenance work at the Lokoja Transmission Station, affecting areas including Lokoja town, Konton Karfe, Naval Base, and surrounding communities.

While these temporary disruptions may cause inconvenience to households and businesses, power sector experts emphasize that such upgrades are crucial for maintaining and improving electricity reliability, reducing voltage fluctuations, and building infrastructure capable of meeting growing energy demands in Nigeria's urban centers.

EKEDC has apologized for any inconvenience caused by the scheduled outage and expressed appreciation for customer understanding and patience during the improvement works.
