Governor Oborevwori Unveils Comprehensive Blueprint to Tackle Delta's Electricity Crisis
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has officially introduced a detailed and strategic blueprint designed to address the long-standing electricity challenges plaguing the state. This initiative combines robust policy reforms with aggressive infrastructure development aimed at significantly enhancing power supply and stimulating economic growth across various sectors.
Infrastructure Upgrades and Community Reconnections
During the inauguration of the 31-kilometre rehabilitated Ohoror–Bomadi Road on Tuesday, Governor Oborevwori highlighted the tangible progress already made. He revealed that numerous communities, which had endured over a decade without electricity, have now been successfully reconnected to the national grid. This reconnection has led to a marked improvement in living standards and has unlocked new economic opportunities for residents, fostering local development and reducing hardship.
The governor emphasized that his administration is adopting a proactive and structured approach to resolve power issues. Key measures include the extension of 33KV transmission lines, the installation of new transformers, and the rehabilitation of critical electricity infrastructure in areas that were previously underserved or neglected. "We are taking deliberate and practical steps to address power supply challenges across Delta State. Efforts are ongoing to extend 33KV lines, install transformers, and rehabilitate critical electricity infrastructure," Oborevwori stated, underscoring the commitment to tangible actions over mere promises.
Legal and Institutional Framework for Sustainable Power
To bolster these efforts, Governor Oborevwori noted the enactment of the Delta State Electricity Law and the approval of the State Electricity Policy by the State Executive Council. These policy instruments provide a solid legal and institutional framework, enabling the state to confront power sector challenges more effectively and sustainably. "As a sub-national, we are fully aware of the power challenges in some parts of the state. With these policy instruments in place, we are better positioned to drive sustainable improvements in electricity supply," he explained, highlighting the strategic importance of governance in achieving long-term solutions.
Engagement of Expert Consulting Firm
Further detailing the blueprint, the governor disclosed that a reputable electricity consulting firm has been engaged to drive the implementation of the administration's MORE Agenda in the power sector. This firm is currently conducting a comprehensive assessment of electricity infrastructure across Delta State. The final report from this assessment is expected soon and will serve as a critical guide for future interventions, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently and that projects are aligned with the state's specific needs and priorities.
