Babcock Graduate Quits Bank Job to Sell Fabrics

A Babcock University graduate has reflected on her bold decision to leave a banking career at First Bank after just six months to pursue fabric selling. The graduate, named Busayo, shared her journey on Facebook, revealing that she earned both her bachelor's degree in marketing and a master's degree in finance from Babcock University.

From Banking to Fabrics

Nine years ago, Busayo completed her master's in finance at Babcock University, which she credits for shaping her into the entrepreneur she is today. After her master's, she secured a job at First Bank through her father's assistance. However, she resigned after six months to start a fabric business, calling it one of the biggest decisions of her life.

Busayo admitted that the transition was not easy. Many people, including her father, questioned why she would leave a stable bank job after years of education. She noted that her father sometimes wonders why she chose business despite the resources invested in her education.

Standing by Her Decision

Despite the doubts, Busayo remains firm in her choice. She expressed gratitude for taking the bold step and emphasized that her master's degree in finance has been instrumental in building and managing her business. In her Facebook post, she wrote: '9 years ago, I convocated from Babcock University with my Master’s degree in Finance. Looking back now, I realize that decision shaped me into the woman and entrepreneur I am today.'

She continued: 'After my BSc in Marketing at Babcock University and completing my NYSC, I went ahead for my MSc. I later got a bank job at First Bank through my dad and worked there for just six months before making one of the biggest decisions of my life, I resigned to start selling fabrics.'

Busayo acknowledged the challenges: 'It wasn’t an easy journey at all. Many people didn’t understand it. Imagine leaving a bank job after spending years in school. Sometimes my dad would even wonder why I chose business after all the effort put into my education. But deep down, I knew what I wanted.'

Lessons Learned

She concluded: 'Today, I’m grateful I took that step. My MSc in Finance has helped me greatly in building and managing my business, and every part of the journey has contributed to who I am today. This picture is more than a graduation photo to me. It is a reminder of courage, growth, faith, and the power of believing in yourself even when the path looks uncertain. Thank God for the journey so far.'
