Langovest Limited Advocates for Policy Reforms to Enhance Private Sector Role in Infrastructure Development
Langovest Limited, a prominent infrastructure and technology firm, has issued a strong appeal to government authorities to relax regulatory and tax policies, aiming to stimulate greater private sector involvement in infrastructure projects across Nigeria. The call was made during the recent deployment of the company's AquaPoint water filtration system at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), underscoring the need for more supportive frameworks to address critical infrastructure gaps.
Challenges in Access to Safe Drinking Water Highlighted
David Amafina, the Business Development Lead at Langovest Limited, emphasized that while numerous organizations are working to improve access to safe drinking water, affordability and accessibility remain significant hurdles for the average Nigerian. He pointed out that easing restrictions and tax-related obligations would facilitate private firms in deploying infrastructure initiatives not only in Lagos but also in other regions of the country. Amafina stressed that government support through flexible regulatory frameworks and tax considerations is essential to enable private entities to expand innovative solutions to underserved communities effectively.
Innovative Water Purification System Deployed
The AquaPoint system, described as a modular water purification infrastructure, is designed to provide clean drinking water without the necessity for bottling, thereby enhancing last-mile access to potable water. This intervention comes at a critical time, as estimates indicate that approximately 170 million Nigerians lack access to safe drinking water, highlighting an urgent need for scalable solutions. Adefunke Olatoke, the Legal and Compliance Officer of Langovest Limited, revealed that the LASUTH deployment marks the initial phase of a broader rollout strategy across Lagos State.
Olatoke explained that the system is integrated with the hospital's water source and serves as a demonstration of scalable water infrastructure in public facilities. She outlined ambitious plans, stating, "We are starting with this, but it doesn't end here. It goes into every 500 meters. That is the plan." The company aims to achieve around 2,500 installations across Lagos by 2030, with residential and personal-use models currently in development to further expand reach.
Hospital Leadership Commends Infrastructure Support
On behalf of LASUTH, Chief Medical Director Adetokunbo Fabamwo expressed gratitude for the donation, noting that the installation will significantly improve access to clean water within the facility. He highlighted that this initiative provides a reliable source of clean water for staff and visitors, contributing to better health outcomes and operational efficiency. The collaboration between Langovest Limited and LASUTH exemplifies how private sector innovations can complement public efforts in addressing infrastructure deficits, particularly in essential services like water supply.
This development underscores the broader context of infrastructure challenges in Nigeria, where private investment is seen as a key driver for progress. By advocating for policy easing, Langovest Limited aims to create a more conducive environment for private firms to contribute to national development, ultimately benefiting communities through improved access to vital resources.
