100,000 Housing Units for Southeast Nigeria

Massive Housing Initiative Launched in Southeast Nigeria

A groundbreaking partnership has been formed to tackle the severe housing shortage in Nigeria's southeast region. The pan-Igbo consortium Igboebinie has signed a significant agreement with Hand of God Construction Company Limited to deliver 100,000 housing units across the region over the next decade.

The agreement, formalized in Enugu on November 10, 2025, represents one of the most ambitious housing projects in recent Nigerian history. The development will span all five southeastern states—Enugu, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, and Anambra—with the inclusion of Asaba in Delta State.

Comprehensive Regional Development Strategy

This initiative is strategically designed to address Nigeria's staggering 28 million housing deficit while creating transformative economic opportunities. The project has already gained strong political support, with state governors committing substantial land parcels to enable the development.

The vision extends beyond mere housing construction. According to project details, the development will feature:

  • Smart cities meeting international standards
  • Environments conducive to trade and commerce
  • Industrialization promotion
  • Investment opportunity creation
  • Adequate housing for all income levels

Projections indicate the initiative will generate approximately three million jobs and significantly enhance living standards throughout the region.

Leadership Vision and Implementation Approach

At the signing ceremony attended by Commissioners for Land from various southeastern states, Prince Chinedu Nsoffor, President of Igboebinie, emphasized the transformative potential of the project. "Ndigbo possess everything needed to generate significant wealth in Igboland, Nigeria, and Africa," Nsoffor stated.

He highlighted that the consortium has introduced a revolutionary zero construction mechanism that will ensure affordability and realism in project delivery. This innovative approach marks the first implementation of its kind globally.

David Nwachukwu, Managing Director of Hand of God Construction Company and Vice President of REDAN Southeast, explained the comprehensive research behind the initiative. "We have traversed the length and breadth of the southeast and met with Igbo in the Diaspora," Nwachukwu revealed.

He noted the significant demand among diaspora Igbos seeking investment platforms in their homeland. The partnership aims to unite Igbos worldwide under the Igboebinie umbrella to collectively drive regional development.

Government Support and Land Commitment

State governments have demonstrated strong commitment to the project's success. Patrick Okolie, Enugu State Commissioner for Land, confirmed the identification of approximately fifty hectares for the project, with readiness to provide more land as needed.

Okolie emphasized the state government's crackdown on land grabbing to ensure project credibility and land value protection.

From Ebonyi State, Commissioner Nwaobashi Matthew conveyed full government support, highlighting the project's dual benefit of addressing housing needs while creating employment opportunities. Matthew specifically addressed the ongoing 'Monday sit at home' phenomenon affecting the region, urging collective action to discourage the trend.

Enyinnaya Onuegbu, Commissioner for Lands and Survey in Imo State, described the partnership as a direct response to the housing crisis. He confirmed Imo State's collaboration with federal agencies to enhance mass housing development capacity.

This public-private partnership represents a significant step toward revitalizing southeastern Nigeria's infrastructure and economic landscape while providing much-needed housing solutions for its growing population.
