India's High Commissioner Pledges to Strengthen Trade Ties with Nigeria in Mining and Steel

Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Abhishek Singh, has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening bilateral trade relations between India and Nigeria, with a particular focus on the mining and steel sectors. Singh made this declaration during a recent visit to African Natural Resources and Mines Limited (ANRML), a subsidiary of the African Industries Group (AIG), located in Gujeni Village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Support for Indian Professionals and Industrial Contributions

During his tour, Singh expressed strong support for the Indian professionals working at the facility and encouraged AIG to continue its significant contributions to Nigeria's mining sector. He highlighted the importance of such investments in fostering economic growth and bilateral cooperation.

Singh stated: "This particular plant situated at Gujeni Village, Kagarko LGA, along the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria Expressway in Kaduna State, has invested $600 million in Nigeria. It stands as one of the largest enterprises operated by Indian industrialists, who have been established in Nigeria for five decades."

Comprehensive Tour of Industrial Facilities

As part of his comprehensive visit, the High Commissioner also inspected AIG's Abuja Steel Mills, exploration unit, and solar power facilities located in Sabon-Wuse, along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway in Niger State. He commended the scale of operations, particularly noting the solar plant, which ranks among the largest in Nigeria and provides essential energy for steel production.

Singh praised the integration of renewable energy into industrial processes, emphasizing its role in sustainable development and operational efficiency.

Appreciation from African Industries Group

In response, the Group Managing Director of AIG, Mr. Alok Gupta, expressed deep appreciation for the High Commissioner's visit. He acknowledged the supportive role of the Nigerian government in fostering a conducive business environment that enables such large-scale investments and operations.

Gupta highlighted the long-standing partnership between Indian industrialists and Nigeria, underscoring the mutual benefits derived from these bilateral trade relations.
