The Emir of Daura, Dr Umar Faruk Umar, CON, has conferred the traditional title of “Mairamar Kasar Hausa I” on the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Barr. Hannatu Musa Musawa. The title, which translates to “First Daughter of Hausa Land,” was bestowed on Wednesday during the closing ceremony of the Hausa Day celebrations held in Daura, Katsina State.
Minister’s Reaction to the Honour
Speaking after receiving the honour, Musawa described the conferment as deeply personal, saying it reflected her roots, heritage and pride in Hausa culture. She said the title had further strengthened her resolve to protect, promote and project Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage while ensuring that its history, values and traditions are preserved for future generations.
“My rich Hausa culture has shaped who I am today, and I am immensely proud to call it my own. I receive this title with a grateful heart, humility, and a deep sense of responsibility,” she said.
Title as a Call to Duty
According to her, the honour goes beyond personal recognition, as it carries a responsibility to continue celebrating and preserving the cultural heritage of the Hausa people. “Beyond the honour it represents, I see it as a call to continue celebrating, preserving, and promoting our heritage, while ensuring that its values, stories, and traditions are passed proudly to generations yet to come,” she added.
The minister expressed appreciation to the Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, traditional rulers and institutions, as well as the people of the state, for the warm reception and support accorded her during the Hausa Day celebrations.
Culture as a Living Legacy
She said the event had reinforced the importance of culture as a living legacy that must be nurtured and transmitted from one generation to another. “As we bring the celebrations of Hausa Day to a close, this honour reminds me once again that our culture is more than our inheritance. It is a living legacy and a trust entrusted to us to preserve, nurture, and hand over to those who come after us,” Musawa said.
She pledged to carry the title, Mairamar Kasar Hausa ta Farko, with pride and renewed commitment to the preservation, promotion and projection of the heritage of Kasar Hausa. “I am proud of my heritage. I am proud of our culture,” she said.
