A Nigerian lady has shared her observation about the burial rites of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, specifically noting a cultural practice that caught her off guard.
Alexx Ekubo's Burial in Arochukwu
The actor, who passed away on May 11, 2026, after battling metastatic kidney cancer, was buried in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State, on June 18, 2026. Prior to the burial, a service of songs was held in his honor in Lagos on June 10.
Photos and videos from the burial ceremony circulated online, prompting reactions from fans and observers. One lady, in particular, pointed out a detail about the coffin's handling.
Observation About the Coffin
She noted that Alexx Ekubo's body appeared to have spent the night in the family house before being interred. This tradition surprised her, as she believed it had faded with the advent of Christianity.
She asked: "It seems Alex’s body spent the night in the family house before burial. I honestly thought this tradition had faded away with Christianity, so I’m surprised to see it’s still being observed in Arochukwu. Is this still common in your community?"
Her question has sparked discussions about the persistence of traditional burial customs in modern Christian communities.
