Polygamy Not Same as Promiscuity, Ex-Police Spokesperson

Former spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, CSP Anene Sewuese Catherine, has clarified that polygamy and promiscuity are not the same thing. In a Facebook post on Friday, May 22, 2026, amidst a cheating scandal, she emphasized that polygamy is a part of her culture.

Officer Defends Cultural Practices

Anene, who hails from Benue, explained that a man legally marrying multiple wives does not automatically label him as promiscuous. She wrote, “Polygamy and promiscuity are not synonymous. Make una no interpret my culture wrongly please.”

Clarifying Misconceptions

The statement comes as a response to ongoing discussions about relationships and fidelity. The officer urged the public not to misinterpret her cultural traditions, highlighting the distinction between lawful polygamous unions and promiscuous behavior.
