New Book Raises Alarm Over Nigeria's Moral Decay, Launch Event Takes Political Turn
Attention has been sharply drawn to the escalating moral decadence in Nigeria, described as a critical threat requiring urgent intervention. This warning was issued during the public presentation of a book titled “Threats to Societal Values and Advancement”, authored by Dr. Fineboy Joseph, a lecturer, Director of General Studies, and Associate Dean at Clifford University in Owerrinta, Abia State.
Dr. Joseph stated that the increasing level of moral decay in society was the primary motivation behind his writing. He emphasized that this trend poses significant risks to national development and social cohesion, calling for immediate action to address it.
Event Venue and Political Endorsements
The book launch was held at the Adventist Technical Secondary College (ASTEC) in Owerrinta, located in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State. However, the event quickly pivoted from its academic focus to political matters.
A key highlight was the endorsement of Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti of the Labour Party for a second term in office by the ‘Vanguard Movement for Continuity (VMC)’, which identified itself as a political group. The group asserted that no better alternative to Otti has yet emerged.
Support from State Officials
Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, promptly ratified this endorsement. He argued that Governor Otti deserves a second term due to his exceptional performance, noting that it would allow him to complete numerous unprecedented projects across the state, which are currently at various stages of completion.
Emeruwa, also a member of the Labour Party, claimed that unlike in the past, Abians are now proud of their state, with many returning home to contribute to its development. He maintained that developments are ongoing simultaneously in all sectors, describing Otti's governance as divinely mandated to revive Abia State.
Additional Political Backing
Another speaker, Elder Dr. Kingsley Nwaigburu, General Manager of the Abia State Debt Management Office and Leader of the Alex Otti Vanguard Movement for Continuity, stated that his group is a broad umbrella capable of accommodating everyone interested in good governance. He expressed strong belief in Alex Otti and a desire to see him return to power in 2027.
Nwaigburu highlighted that the group gathered in large numbers to publicly announce their endorsement. He praised the governor as a gift to Abia, citing achievements such as clearing arrears of salaries and pensions from previous governments, building hospitals and smart schools, reconstructing neglected roads and bridges, attracting foreign investors, addressing insecurity, and ensuring ease of doing business in the state.
