Katsina Governor Unveils Free Smart Schools for Rural, Disadvantaged Children
Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has emphatically stated that the state's newly established model smart schools were intentionally created to offer children from rural and disadvantaged backgrounds a world-class education, completely free of charge. This declaration was made during a visit where he led 17 European Union envoys to Dumurkul Model Secondary School in Daura, one of three modern schools set up across the state's three geo-political zones.
State-of-the-Art Facilities for Equal Opportunity
Governor Radda highlighted that each smart school is equipped with 24-hour electricity, ICT-fitted classrooms, hostels, and reliable internet access. He emphasized that education and all essential amenities are provided at no cost to students, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder access to quality learning. This initiative aims to bridge the educational gap between urban and rural areas, fostering inclusivity and empowerment for underprivileged youth.
Commissioner Confirms Rapid Progress and Upcoming Launch
During the visit, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Yusuf Suleiman Jibia, received the delegation and provided an update on the Dumurkul school's status. He disclosed that the school is nearly completed and is scheduled to be commissioned within the next two weeks. Jibia further noted that students have already been enrolled and teachers recruited, indicating that the institution is ready to commence operations and deliver on its promise of free, high-quality education.
Key Features of the Smart Schools:
- Free tuition and essential services for all students
- 24-hour electricity supply to support uninterrupted learning
- ICT-equipped classrooms to enhance digital literacy
- Hostel accommodations for boarding students
- Internet access to connect students with global educational resources
This strategic move by the Katsina State government underscores a commitment to leveraging technology and modern infrastructure to transform education, particularly for those in remote and underserved communities. By partnering with international envoys, the state also seeks to showcase its efforts in educational reform and attract potential support for future initiatives.
