Nigerian Man Celebrates Woman's Consistent Birthday Generosity Over Three Years

A Nigerian man has publicly expressed his heartfelt appreciation for a Canada-based woman who has consistently sent him $100 (approximately N137,000) on his birthdays for the past three years, despite the two never having met in person. The heartwarming story highlights a bond built on trust and gratitude that transcends physical distance.

How Their Connection Began with a Significant Act of Help

Ejikeme Benedict Ifeanyi, who recently celebrated his 34th birthday, revealed that his relationship with Chinyere Evangeline Ofodum began in 2022 when she needed assistance with her tuition deposit for studies in Canada. According to Ejikeme, Chinyere was preparing to study abroad but faced challenges converting her Nigerian naira to Canadian dollars for the required CAD 10,000 (approximately N9.8 million) tuition deposit.

"She doesn't know me and hasn't seen me," Ejikeme stated in a Facebook post. "She was a little bit scared but sent me the money in 2022 to help her pay for her tuition fees deposit. I did and sent her the receipt."

Ejikeme downplayed his honest actions, explaining that integrity was simply part of his character. "It's not a big deal for me because even at gunpoint, I won't take money that's not my own," he emphasized, noting he had previously handled transactions involving much larger sums for people he had never met.

Woman Confirms the Story and Praises His Integrity

Reacting to Ejikeme's public appreciation post, Chinyere Evangeline Ofodum confirmed the details of their story. She explained that in 2022, when she gained admission to study in Canada and needed to deposit $10,000 as part of her tuition, she found herself with limited options and little trust in others regarding financial matters.

"I didn't know him personally and have still not met him in person, only as a Facebook friend," Chinyere wrote. "Still, I decided to test his integrity and trusted him with my tuition deposit."

She described how Ejikeme went out of his way to convert her naira to Canadian dollars and complete the payment on her behalf. "A few days later, I received the receipt for my payment and my letter of acceptance from my school and proceeded with my visa application," she recalled, adding that their relationship has since evolved into a solid friendship.

Birthday Tradition and Heartwarming Acknowledgment

For the past three to four years, Chinyere has maintained a tradition of sending Ejikeme $100 on each of his birthdays as a token of her ongoing appreciation. Ejikeme shared a screenshot dated April 4, confirming her most recent birthday gift.

In his Facebook post, Ejikeme expressed his gratitude with both humor and sincerity: "Thank you Mummy Uduego for this consistency. My son, Ugomsinachi will marry your last daughter and we'll pay the bride price in hard currency." He added in Igbo, "Anyi karịrị okwu anyị kotere" (We have surpassed our spoken words), indicating their relationship had exceeded expectations.

Social Media Reactions to the Touching Story

The story has generated numerous positive reactions on social media, with many praising both individuals for their character:

  • Adaobi Obikwelu commented: "That's great, it is good to be good, keep it up bro."
  • Charles Emeka Ofodile wrote: "God bless the giver and the celebrant. It's good to be good."
  • Osita Godfrey reacted with surprise at the gift's value when converted to naira: "I nearly say only 100 dollars till I convert am to naira. Chineke God! My school fees! Ouch!!!!!"
  • Ejikeme Chiamaka added humorously: "I for complete am $200, but you get bad character. Meanwhile enjoy my bro."

This story serves as a reminder that acts of kindness and integrity can forge lasting connections, even across continents and without physical meetings. Both Ejikeme's willingness to help a stranger with a significant financial transaction and Chinyere's consistent gratitude through birthday gifts demonstrate how trust and appreciation can build meaningful relationships in today's digital world.
