NGO Empowers 100 Adolescent Girls Through Sisters for HER Initiative on International Women's Day 2026
In a significant celebration of International Women's Day (IWD) 2026, the Beyond The Classroom Foundation launched its impactful Sisters for HER initiative, directly empowering 100 adolescent girls through structured mentorship programs. This initiative represents a growing collective of dedicated women committed to guiding young girls through their formative years with practical support and encouragement.
Structured Mentorship for Adolescent Development
The Sisters for HER initiative creates essential safe spaces where adolescent girls can openly ask questions, share personal concerns, and receive valuable guidance from experienced female mentors. Through carefully organized mentoring conversations, storytelling sessions, and practical life guidance, the program connects participants with role models who help them navigate adolescence with increased confidence and clarity.
Mentorship plays an absolutely critical role during these formative years when young girls frequently confront peer pressure, identity challenges, and competing expectations regarding relationships, education, and future aspirations. Positive female role models provide essential encouragement, valuable perspective, and practical wisdom that help girls build genuine self-worth, maintain educational focus, and make more informed life decisions.
Multi-Platform Engagement Strategy
The initiative's activities commenced with an insightful radio conversation on the Amplify programme, where Raquel Kasham Daniel, Founder of Beyond The Classroom Foundation, emphasized the vital importance of mentoring adolescent girls and protecting their educational journeys. As part of the comprehensive International Women's Day engagement, the foundation also hosted a dynamic online awareness campaign on March 8, successfully bringing together numerous women committed to supporting and mentoring the next generation of girls.
The program culminated in a substantial school mentoring outreach on Monday, March 9 at Junior Secondary School (JSS) Aliyeta in Lugbe, Abuja. During this impactful event, 100 adolescent girls participated in structured mentoring sessions that included:
- Small group mentoring circles
- Guided discussion sessions
- Personal reflection exercises
- Open conversations with women mentors
These sessions created a supportive environment where participants could freely ask questions, reflect on personal aspirations, and strengthen their commitment to education and future goals.
Foundation's Vision for Girls' Empowerment
Speaking passionately about the initiative, Daniel explained, "Many girls today are navigating pressures and distractions that can easily derail their dreams. Through Sisters for HER, we are reminding girls that their education matters, their voices matter, and their future is worth protecting. We want every girl to know that she is not alone, there are sisters who are ready to stand with her and stand for her."
The Sisters for HER initiative represents a powerful commitment to gender equity and educational advancement, providing adolescent girls with the tools, support, and inspiration needed to overcome challenges and pursue their aspirations with renewed determination and confidence.
