In today's world, countless voices compete for our attention. From human advice to medical opinions and even demonic whispers, these voices can shape our lives for better or worse. However, as believers, we are called to listen to one voice above all others: the voice of God. A single word from Him has the power to transform our circumstances, heal our bodies, and fulfill our purpose.
The Power of Voices
We live in an age where many voices speak to us daily. Human voices offer counsel over our challenges, while medical voices address our health concerns. Yet, not all voices are beneficial. The Bible warns in Job 1:6 and Job 2:2 that Satan roams the earth, speaking fear, hopelessness, and confusion into people's lives. Listening to the wrong voice can lead to bondage and despair.
God's Voice Prevails
God does not intend for His children to be controlled by these negative voices. His Word is final and brings solutions to every problem. When we tune into His voice, we receive direction, peace, and breakthrough. As the centurion demonstrated in Luke 7:7, complete confidence in Jesus' authority brings miraculous results.
The Centurion's Faith
In Luke 7, a Roman centurion approached Jesus on behalf of his dying servant. He acknowledged his unworthiness but declared, "Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed" (NLT). Jesus marveled at this faith, not because of the centurion's rank or generosity, but because of his simple trust in divine authority. When the messengers returned home, they found the servant healed (Luke 7:10).
Applying the Lesson
Like the centurion, we must recognize that God's authority supersedes all earthly powers. Dallas Willard noted that the centurion understood command and recognized Jesus' ability to speak events into being. In our trying moments, we must be still and quiet, waiting for just one word from God. That word will settle every case.
