Sunday School teachers of Lagos Province 85 of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) convened last week at the province headquarters in Fagba, Lagos, for a train-the-trainer programme titled "Teachers As A Midwife." The event aimed to equip grassroots teachers with new knowledge for handling classes and to heighten their awareness of current realities.
Programme Objectives
Pastor-in-Charge of Province LP 85, Matthew Aiyedun, explained that the programme seeks to ensure the doctrine of Jesus Christ remains undiluted. It also encourages teachers and students to do more for Christ, raise new soldiers for the vineyard, and live by the Word. He urged members to report pastors preaching heresies, providing evidence, so church authorities can act promptly.
"Any Pastor that preaches heresies in RCCG will face the wrath of the church. However, majority of them escape punishment because members do not call the church's authorities to such acts. Bring them up with evidence, definitely something will be done," Aiyedun stated.
Noble Calling of Teaching
Aiyedun, a former Sunday School teacher, described teaching in the Sunday school as one of the noblest jobs. He advised teachers to present topics clearly and simply for student comprehension. "If we are doing well, raising other people, and our students see the honour in teaching, they will join us as well," he added.
Region 53 Sunday School Coordinator, Pastor Roseline Abiodun, revealed that the conference initially took place at the regional level in February. The current edition trained coordinators who missed the February event and grassroots teachers. She announced that the provincial conference will now be an annual event, emphasizing that a well-trained teacher produces a well-grounded Christian who is spirit-filled and impacts the community positively.
Facilitators and Topics
Facilitators included Pastor Matthew Aiyedun, who spoke on "Teachers As Midwife"; Pastor Emmanuel Ekwedike, who presented "Teaching To Transform: Building A Firm Foundation For Generation To Come"; Pastor Adejuwon Adegboye, who discussed "The Teacher As A Facilitator Of Self Discovery"; and Pastor Nelson Adeyelu, who tackled "When Teaching Becomes Courageous Standing For The Truth." A health talk by a seasoned medic provided insights on healthy living and disease prevention.
