A Nigerian woman who once dreamed of becoming a reverend sister has shared her powerful journey of starting life over after leaving religious life and feeling left behind by her peers.
The Dream That Didn't Fit
Mojirade Ewaade revealed that becoming a reverend sister was her childhood ambition. She entered religious life immediately after completing secondary school as one of the bright students in her set. However, she soon discovered that the convent life wasn't suitable for her.
She described herself as naive and unprepared for the religious commitment. "I couldn't fit in," she confessed, adding that she had rushed into the decision while her contemporaries were gaining university admissions.
The Struggle After Leaving
When Ewaade eventually left the convent, she returned to find that her peers had significantly progressed in life. Many had already graduated from university, while others had married and established careers. This realization left her feeling completely left behind and uncertain about how to restart her life.
Her initial attempt to resume education ended in disappointment when she discovered that the pre-degree program she enrolled in was actually fake. After studying for one year, she uncovered the deception and left the state out of frustration. The experience left her so disillusioned that she vowed never to set foot in any educational institution again.
The Turning Point
After years of wandering and confusion, Ewaade encountered a life-changing tweet in 2022 that read: "You are 30 so don't want to go for a 5 yr course because when you finish you will be 35. Whether you go back or not, you will be 35 in 5 yrs."
This simple message became her motivation to start afresh. She decided to return to school and is now pursuing a degree program. Remarkably, she even picked up another degree last year in her chosen field.
Ewaade emphasized that her secondary school classmates who had smooth transitions are not better than her. She simply started over five years later, and that's perfectly acceptable.
Message of Hope
Though she initially preferred to keep her private life offline, Ewaade felt compelled to share her story to inspire others walking similar paths. Her powerful message resonates with anyone who feels they're too old to start over.
"Your race is different. No two people run the same race," she wrote on X. "If I can do it, you absolutely can and you will. This is not a motivational speech, nor a pep talk. Pick it up and do it anyway! You are never too old for anything."
Her journey from convent disappointment to educational empowerment serves as a testament that timing in life is personal, and it's never too late to pursue one's dreams.
