The Daniel Ogechi Akujobi Memorial Foundation (DOAMF) marked this year's Children's Day with students of Mount Zion Nursery and Primary School in Makoko, Lagos, as part of its ongoing efforts to spread joy and hope to the younger generation.

The celebration welcomed over 100 children and was filled with laughter, excitement, and joy for the students and other children from the surrounding community. It was a memorable day dedicated to celebrating the dreams, talents, and happiness of young people in the area.

Makoko, often described as the world's largest floating slum, has seen numerous interventions over the years, yet there has been little noticeable improvement in the quality of life for its residents. The Children's Day event was organized to bring encouragement and mentorship to the children, inspiring them to aspire for a better future.

Bukunmi Osunsina, the Foundation's Senior Programme Officer, said, "As the theme of this year's celebration, 'Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for every Nigerian Child,' suggests, the Foundation decided to celebrate with these children to let them know that they matter and that they are not forgotten." She added that the Foundation understands that children are the future of any nation, and for a good future, no child should be left behind, as any child neglected today could become a menace to society tomorrow. "Children's Day reminds us of our shared responsibility to nurture, protect, and empower every child. Seeing the joy on their faces made all the effort worthwhile," she concluded.

Catherine Olukotun, the Foundation's Programme Manager, explained, "Children's Day continues to serve as an important reminder of the value of investing in our youngest generation. DOAM Foundation remains dedicated to creating safe, inclusive spaces where children can thrive and reach their full potential." She further disclosed that the celebration was made possible through the generous support and partnership of organizations such as Sacvin, Chikki Foods, FMN, Eezee Rainbow, 7Up Bottling Company, New Bisco, and Beloxxi Biscuits. She noted that alongside nutritional materials provided for the children, clothing materials were donated by individuals, adding more fun and color to the celebration.
