A young man on TikTok, known as @mattybnksx, has detailed how Nigerians can obtain their original West African Examinations Council (WAEC) certificate online without visiting their secondary school or paying exorbitant fees. The process also applies to those who lost their original certificate and need a replacement.
Steps to Get Original WAEC Certificate Online
In a TikTok video, the man claimed the entire process costs no more than N10,000. He explained that many schools demand large sums for certificates, but WAEC's official digital platform offers a cheaper, faster alternative. The four steps are:
- Step 1: Visit the official WAEC website at waec.org and create an account.
- Step 2: Input your personal details. You will be prompted to complete a verification process.
- Step 3: Use your international passport, Bank Verification Number (BVN), or National Identification Number (NIN) for verification. The man noted that most Nigerian adults have at least one of these.
- Step 4: After verification, a payment option appears. Pay about N8,000 via Remita (less than N10,000). Once paid, you can download your original WAEC certificate. Print it on hard concord paper, and you have your original result.
According to the man, this eliminates the need to deal with your school's demands for excessive fees or complicated processes.

In a related development, Legit.ng reported that WAEC released a key update for all 2026 WASSCE schools and supervisors. The Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, Moyosola F. Adesina, lamented that some supervisors and schools are extorting candidates under various pretexts, including transportation of scripts, welfare packages, and unauthorised cooperation fees. She also noted that some schools demand payment for KAPEK calculators, which WAEC provided at no cost to candidates.
