Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has declared that no child will be excluded from the state's developmental agenda, which includes equal access to education, healthcare, and social protection. The governor made this commitment during the 2026 International Children's Day celebration held on Saturday at the Government House in Kano.
Deputy Governor Delivers Message
Represented by Deputy Governor Alh. Murtala Sule Garo, Governor Yusuf emphasized his administration's dedication to creating equal opportunities for every child to reach their full potential, regardless of social status. Garo stated, "Every child, regardless of gender, disability, socioeconomic background, religion, or geographical location, deserves the opportunity to thrive and realize their full potential in Kano."
Children as Foundation of Development
According to Garo, the Kano state government recognizes that children are the foundation of sustainable development and the custodians of tomorrow's leadership. He added that the administration is committed to implementing policies and programs that ensure no child is left without basic necessities of life.
Investments in Education and Healthcare
Garo highlighted ongoing efforts: "We continue to invest in education, strengthen child protection mechanisms, improve healthcare services, and create an environment where every child can learn, thrive, and realize their full potential. We are particularly committed to supporting vulnerable children, including children with disabilities, out-of-school children, and those facing various forms of disadvantage. Through collaboration with communities, civil society organizations, traditional institutions, and development partners, we are working to remove barriers that hinder children's participation and development."
Encouragement for Children and Stakeholders
The governor encouraged children to dream big and work hard towards achieving their goals, urging them to embrace values of honesty, respect, and patriotism. He also called on parents, guardians, teachers, and stakeholders to continue nurturing children with love, guidance, and opportunities for success. "Together, we can build a society where every child feels valued, protected, and included. As we celebrate this special day, let us renew our collective commitment to creating a Nigeria where every child can enjoy their rights and contribute meaningfully to national development," Garo concluded.
