Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has approved the disbursement of N328,123,392.35 for the first phase of the 2026 Medical Students’ Allowance Scheme, benefiting 650 medical students across 33 accredited universities. The initiative underscores the government's dedication to enhancing human capital in the health sector.
Details of the Disbursement
Dr Muhammad Nazir Shehu, General Manager of the Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board (KTHSMB), confirmed the disbursement in a statement signed by Board Secretary Abu Usman. The allowance covers medical students enrolled in universities both within Nigeria and abroad, aiming to ease financial burdens during their academic and professional training.
Government's Strategic Investment
“This is a strategic investment by the state government to build a competent, resilient, and service-oriented healthcare workforce capable of meeting the evolving health needs of Katsina State and the nation,” Shehu stated. The Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board implemented the initiative, ensuring proper management and transparent distribution of funds.
The General Manager noted that the allowance enables students to focus on their studies without financial worry. The initiative represents a deliberate investment in healthcare workforce development, ensuring a pipeline of qualified professionals to address Katsina's health challenges.
