Lagos Opens Registration for Second CBT Screening into Model Colleges

The Lagos State Ministry of Education has announced the opening of registration for the second Computer-Based Test (CBT) screening exercise for admission into its model colleges. The test is specifically for students seeking admission into Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS 1) for the 2026/2027 academic session.

Registration Details and Deadline

According to a statement released by the ministry, registration will commence on July 15, 2026, and close on August 15, 2026. Interested candidates are required to register online via the Lagos State Ministry of Education’s official portal. The registration fee is set at N1,500 per candidate.

Eligibility and Requirements

The screening is open to pupils who are currently in Primary 6 and will be transitioning to secondary school. Candidates must be between the ages of 10 and 12 years. Additionally, applicants must be residents of Lagos State and must provide proof of residency, such as a valid Lagos State resident card or a utility bill in the parent’s name.

Examination Format and Subjects

The CBT screening will test candidates in four core subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Verbal Aptitude, and Quantitative Aptitude. The test will be conducted across designated CBT centres in the state. The ministry emphasised that the screening is free from any form of malpractice, and candidates are advised to adhere strictly to the examination guidelines.

Number of Model Colleges and Available Spaces

Lagos State operates 10 model colleges across the state, including well-known institutions such as Lagos State Model College, Igbonla; Lagos State Model College, Kankon; and Lagos State Model College, Badore. The total number of available spaces for the 2026/2027 session has not been disclosed, but the ministry assured that all qualified candidates will be considered based on merit.

Importance of the Screening

The Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folashade Adefisayo, stated that the CBT screening is part of the government’s efforts to ensure a transparent and equitable admission process into its model colleges. “The second CBT screening is designed to give every child in Lagos State an equal opportunity to access quality education in our model colleges. We encourage parents and guardians to register their wards early to avoid the last-minute rush,” she said.

Previous Screening and Performance

The first CBT screening exercise, conducted in March 2026, recorded over 15,000 applicants for the available slots. The success of the first exercise prompted the ministry to organise a second screening to accommodate more candidates. The ministry noted that the test results will be released within two weeks after the examination.

How to Apply

To register, parents or guardians must visit the Lagos State Ministry of Education’s official website, create an account, and fill in the required details. They will then be required to upload a recent passport photograph of the candidate and pay the registration fee online. After successful registration, a confirmation slip will be generated, which must be presented on the day of the examination.

Additional Information

The ministry also warned against any form of bribery or influence peddling, stating that anyone caught engaging in such acts will be prosecuted. For further inquiries, parents can contact the ministry’s helpline or visit the education district offices across the state.
