Two student teams from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) achieved top honors at the Data Science Nigeria (DSN) x Bluechip Technologies (BCT) Data & AI Summit Hackathon 3.0, securing both the 1st Runner-Up and 2nd Runner-Up positions. The competition, a flagship national event, involved 595 teams, over 1,220 participants, and representation from more than 30 states across Nigeria.
Team Orbit Wins 1st Runner-Up with SABI Solution
Team Orbit, comprising Fakorode Henry (Team Lead, 200L Electrical and Electronics Engineering), Adeyemi Muiz (200L Electrical and Electronics Engineering), and Raheem Akapo (200L Systems Engineering), emerged as 1st Runner-Up with their innovative solution, SABI (Streaming Agent for Behavioural Intelligence). The solution addresses real-world Nigerian problems by leveraging behavioural intelligence through scalable AI.
Team Inference Takes 2nd Runner-Up with PulseAgent
Team Inference, consisting of Aborowa Daniel (400L Computer Science), Nwokedi Ifechukwu (200L Computer Science), Elebiemayo Iseoluwa (200L Computer Science), and Victor Chukwuebuka (200L Computer Science), secured the 2nd Runner-Up position with their solution, PulseAgent. Both teams demonstrated technical brilliance and the ability to localize AI for Nigerian realities.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, on behalf of the Senate, staff, and students, congratulated the two teams on their achievements. According to a statement released on Friday, July 3, 2026, via the school website, the VC highlighted that the students' success underscores UNILAG's growing reputation as a hub for AI talent, innovation, and leadership in Africa.
UNILAG's Commitment to AI Innovation
The UNILAG management emphasized that the Hackathon's outcome is a testament to the university's commitment to nurturing students to bridge the gap between academic research and industry-level implementation. The federal government-owned university stated it is dedicated to ensuring that Nigeria's future in AI is shaped by homegrown talent.
