Kano Awards N27.8bn ICT, CBT Centres Contracts

The Kano State government has awarded contracts worth N27.8 billion for the construction of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the 44 local government areas of the state. This was disclosed in a statement by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Baba Dantiye, on Wednesday in Kano.

Project Scope and Contract Details

The contracts are part of the state government’s efforts to enhance digital literacy and provide modern facilities for educational assessments. The project will see the establishment of fully equipped ICT and CBT centres in each of the 44 LGAs, aimed at facilitating seamless computer-based examinations for students and other candidates.

According to Dantiye, the contracts were awarded after a rigorous procurement process, ensuring transparency and value for money. He noted that the centres would be equipped with modern computers, internet connectivity, and backup power systems to ensure uninterrupted service.

Government’s Commitment to Education and Technology

The Kano State government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has prioritised education and technology as key drivers of development. The establishment of these centres is expected to bridge the digital divide and prepare students for the increasing adoption of computer-based testing in national examinations.

Dantiye emphasised that the project would also create job opportunities for youths in the state, as the centres would require technical staff for maintenance and operations. He added that the government is committed to ensuring the timely completion of the projects, with contractors expected to deliver within the stipulated timeframe.

Impact on Students and the Community

Once operational, the ICT and CBT centres will serve not only students but also individuals seeking digital skills training. The centres will offer courses in basic computer operations, internet usage, and other digital literacy programmes, thereby enhancing the employability of residents.

The initiative is also expected to reduce the burden on students who previously had to travel to major cities to sit for computer-based exams. With centres located in all 44 LGAs, candidates will now have access to convenient and affordable testing facilities.

The Kano State government has urged contractors to adhere to the specified standards and complete the projects on schedule. The state also plans to monitor the implementation closely to ensure that the centres meet the needs of the community.
