A 37-year-old man has taken the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) again after a 16-year hiatus and proudly shared his results on social media. The individual, identified as @UsulorIsraelM, posted his 2026 JAMB score, revealing that he outperformed his earlier attempt.
Man Retakes JAMB After 16 Years
The man explained that he already holds a degree in Mass Communication, which he studied for four years. Now, he wishes to return to university to pursue a second degree in English Language. He wrote the 2026 UTME alongside much younger candidates, demonstrating that it is never too late to pursue education.
JAMB Score Comparison
In his post, he disclosed that he scored 285 in the 2026 UTME, a significant improvement from the 261 he achieved 16 years ago. He expressed satisfaction with his performance, especially considering his minimal preparation.
Minimal Preparation for the Exam
The candidate admitted that he did not study extensively for the exam. He only managed to read 'The Lekki Headmaster' and 'The Marriage of Anansewa' along with some recommended poems. He stated that he did not open any books for Christian Religious Knowledge (CRK), English, or Government. Despite this, he hopes to gain admission to a university for his second degree.
Social Media Reaction
His post garnered attention online, with many users praising his determination and resilience. The screenshot of his UTME result showed his scores across all subjects, confirming his achievement.
This story follows similar reports of older individuals returning to education. In another instance, a father reacted to his daughter's impressive JAMB score of 97 in Chemistry and 98 in Physics. Additionally, a young boy went viral for scoring 95 in Physics, 98 in Biology, and 98 in Chemistry, collapsing after checking his result.
The 37-year-old's journey serves as an inspiration to those considering further education later in life.
